Welcome Home, Greggie – June 22nd

The celebrations kept rolling in! We joined with the extended Bayles family to welcome Greggie home from Ukraine. It was fun to see the pictures from his mission and to hear his stories. Although we wrote emails, drew pictures, and sent postcards to Greggie, Carlos didn’t have a concrete memory of Greggie, the here-and-now person; still, he instantly took to his old chum—holding Greggie’s hand, asking to be carried, and wrestling.

Greggie came home to two new nephews, Andrew and Kristen's boys Asher and Noah. Despite the photographic evidence to the contrary, Noah really was pleased to meet Greggie.

We all noticed that Greggie is considerably thinner than he was two years ago; Greggie noticed that we are all considerably fatter than we were two years ago.

Greggie was especially shocked to learn that Andrew is pregnant, LOL.  :)

Arianna’s Birthday and Father’s Day – June 19th

Arianna received lots of fun presents, including new Wii games and Strawberry Shortcake sets. But the best present was spending the day with her favorite guy, Daddy! Kristina hosted our family and Liz to a yummy Father’s Day dinner, followed by one of Kirk’s favorite desserts—fruit tart.

Arianna’s Birthday Party – June 18th

Arianna hosted a “Judy Moody and the Not So Bummer Summer” movie party for her friends. The movie was a great way to get the kids excited for the thrills of summer! We capped off the celebration with a delicious ice cream cake and some great presents!

Last Day of School - June 17th

Carlos’s prekindergarten class had a disproportionate number of summer birthdays, so the last day of school turned into a huge birthday bash. I cooked 10 boxes of Mac-n-Cheese and other parents brought a variety of yummy foods. One parent made balloon animals (and swords), while another painted the kids’ faces. It was a great way to end a great year!

Moving Day - June 11th

After months of searching for a home close to the kids’ school, we found this house for rent. It is so close to school that we can easily walk, and it is also closer to Kirk’s work. We have quite a few neighbors with children, and our new neighborhood is considerably friendlier than in Valencia. It seems something of a self-fulfilling prophecy that our prissy Arianna is now a true “Valley Girl.”

Our “new” house was built in 1949 but our landlord recently remodeled it, so it is very livable. However, at 1500 square feet, it is the smallest property we've lived in since being newlyweds! The house also has no garage, so storage is not an option. We have spent the summer sorting and giving away outgrown clothes, winter blankets, and other possessions that just won’t fit.
