Gotcha Day

On January 14th, we celebrated Carlos’s third Gotcha Day! This special event commemorates the day when, in adoption language, we became a “forever family.” On that day, Carlos’s foster mother transferred him into our permanent care. We have thrived on his smiles ever since!

This year, we continued the lazy-parent, low-budget tradition of hosting Carlos’s friends to free Happy Meals at McDonald’s. This particular party surpassed those in Pennsylvania thanks to the addition of a spacious Play Place; for two happy hours, the kids climbed, chased, and slid with seemingly inexhaustible energy. Senior Carlos had sweat dripping from his hair!

We are so thankful to the parents who finagled weeknight schedules to facilitate their three-year-olds’ attendance at this raucous and memorable party. Carlos had a great time, and I’m sure that, in the future, he’ll likewise appreciate the love and support shown by so many friends (including Mr. Banana).

We’re also grateful to family members who sent gifts, cards, emails, and drawings in recognition of Carlos. We are so impressed by the way that our loved ones have eagerly enveloped Carlos into the extended family; he truly is a blessed little boy!
